Pre Spray Tan Prep

24 Hours Before Your Appointment:

  • Shower, wash your hair, exfoliate, and shave your legs and underarms at least 24 hours before your appointment.
    • Stick with lukewarm or warm water rather than very hot water, which can leave skin irritated and may affect how evenly your tan develops.
  • Remove all previous self-tanner or spray tan, along with any dry or peeling skin.
    • For the best exfoliation, use a dry brush or exfoliating mitt on dry skin before your shower, then gently exfoliate again in the shower to remove any remaining tan.
    • Any leftover self-tanner or spray tan can cause your new tan to develop unevenly, look blotchy, or fade more quickly. Please make sure all previous color is removed before your appointment.
  • Starting 24 hours before your appointment, avoid lotion, body oils, serums, chemical exfoliants, retinols, deodorant, and perfume. Avoid bar soaps or oil-based soaps, especially products like Dove, which may leave a film on the skin.
  • Make your spray tan your last beauty appointment. Schedule manicures, pedicures, waxing, facials, massages, and other beauty services before your spray tan appointment. These services may involve water, oils, lotions, exfoliation, or products that can interfere with your tan or cause it to fade unevenly.

Important: Please do not shower, shave, or exfoliate immediately before your appointment. Water, soap, and shaving can leave residue behind and temporarily change the condition of your skin. Giving your skin several hours after showering before your tan helps create the best canvas for an even application.

The Day of Your Appointment

  • Arrive with clean, dry skin and no moisturizer, makeup, oils, lotion, perfume, or deodorant.
  • Remove all jewelry before your appointment.
  • Have dark, loose-fitting clothing and flip-flops or sandals ready to wear afterward.
  • Loose sweatpants and an oversized or long-sleeve shirt are great options.
  • Avoid white clothing, leggings, jeans, biker shorts, bras, socks, or other tight-fitting clothing after your spray tan.
  • During your appointment, you may wear as much or as little as you are comfortable with. You may choose to tan topless, nude, or wear underwear, a bathing suit, tank top, or another level of coverage you prefer.
  • Salted Peach provides hair nets, disposable undergarments if desired, disposable foot protection, and barrier cream for your hands and nails.

A Little Reminder: Everyone's skin develops differently. Your color may look lighter after your first rinse and continue deepening over the following hours. DHA can continue developing for up to 24 hours, so don't worry if your final color isn't immediately visible after rinsing.

Aftercare

  • Your esthetician will tell you exactly when to rinse based on the solution used and your desired result.
  • If you receive a Rapid Rinse Solution, your rinse time will typically fall between 1–5 hours after your appointment. Do not leave a rapid solution on for longer than 5 hours.
  • Remember: Rapid refers to the rinse time, not the full development time. Your color can continue developing for up to 24 hours after your appointment.
  • Until your first rinse, avoid swimming, exercising, sweating, water, and tight-fitting clothing. Wait until your color has fully developed, approximately 24 hours, before putting jewelry back on.
  • Do not exfoliate while you are maintaining your spray tan. Scrubs, exfoliating mitts, loofahs, chemical exfoliants, and other forms of exfoliation will cause your tan to fade faster. Save exfoliating for when you are ready to remove your tan before your next appointment.
  • Avoid shaving when possible, bar soaps, and body washes containing heavy oils while maintaining your tan. Use a gentle, spray-tan-safe body wash to help protect your color.
  • Try not to touch your skin before your first rinse. The cosmetic bronzer can transfer onto your palms and fingers and leave unwanted color behind. If this happens, gently wash only your palms or fingers with soap and water and pat them dry.
  • Moisturize every day. Keeping your skin hydrated is one of the best ways to help your spray tan last longer and fade evenly.
  • Begin moisturizing approximately 24 hours after your appointment, once your tan has had time to fully develop.
  • Use a spray-tan-safe daily moisturizer and, if desired, a tan-extending lotion once your color has fully developed.

A Little Reminder: Avoid moisturizer and deodorant until approximately 24 hours after your appointment, unless your esthetician tells you otherwise.

First Rinse Post Spray Tan

  • Rinse your body with lukewarm water only.
  • Do not shave or use soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, a loofah, or exfoliating products during your first rinse.
  • Use your hands and water to gently rinse the bronzer from your skin. You will see color washing away — this is completely normal and is simply the cosmetic bronzer rinsing off.
  • Once finished, gently pat your skin dry with a towel rather than rubbing.

A Little Reminder: Everyone's skin develops differently. Your color may look lighter after your first rinse and continue deepening over the following hours. DHA can continue developing for up to 24 hours, so don't worry if your final color isn't immediately visible after rinsing.
